Demonstration Site

Our 2,100-acre demonstration site in New York’s Hudson Highlands is rich in biodiversity and cultural history, making it a vital landscape to protect and the perfect place for our mission. It has seen centuries of human activity and exploitation—like many large landscapes around the world—and is a key living laboratory land stewardship. The large acreage, blend of natural areas and agricultural areas, controlled access, and our commitment to experimentation and learning make this an ideal location for research and pilot projects.

Active Land Management

We understand that landscapes with a history of human activity require intentional management and maintenance. Simply setting aside land and forgetting about it often leads to further degradation—human beings have an important role to play in maintaining and creating healthy lands.

Regenerative Agriculture

We promote and prove out regenerative agricultural techniques based on new science and ancient practices to grow healthy food and contribute to biodiversity and a healthier world.

Collaboration

We are committed to working closely with researchers, regenerative agriculture practitioners, and other organizations who share our goals. We welcome collaboration on research and pilot projects and are always eager to learn from others' expertise.

Engaging Landowners & Land Managers

We believe that each of us are temporary custodians of the land, and we have a responsibility to improve the land for biodiversity and future generations while we can. To that end, we work to inspire landowners and managers (from large to small) with steps they can take on their lands, whether a suburban lot or a small estate. We welcome landowners to learn on our demonstration site, and we travel to their lands to consult on site.

Climate Resilience

We're helping species and ecosystems adapt to climate change by planting climate-appropriate trees and implementing carbon sequestration strategies on agricultural and wild lands.

Education

Land Stewards is committed to training professionals and students in emerging techniques and best practices to help develop a workforce committed and equipped to regenerative land stewardship techniques.
